Great Games Coming Next Season

It’s only April, but I’ve been seriously missing college football. So, let’s stop pretending we’re patient and dive into some of the best matchups we’ll get to see next season.

Week 1 – Ohio State vs Texas

The first weekend of College Football in 2025 is going to be something special. Buckeyes vs Longhorns, a rematch of last season's CFP Cotton Bowl Classic.

To refresh the memories of those who have forgotten this great game, let me remind you. It was a great defensive matchup that saw both teams with nearly the same score at the end of the game. With 2.29 to go, the Buckeyes were up by a touchdown, but Texas was knocking on their door just eight yards away from scoring. That was until Jack Sawyer of Ohio State sacked his former roommate Quinn Ewers (QB of Texas at the time) and scooped up the football to bring back an 83-yard touchdown return to cement a Buckeyes win and send them to the National Championship.

You’re telling me we get a rematch of this game?! In week one??!! I’m all for it. Arch Manning vs Jeremiah Smith? Cannot wait to see it.

Week 3 – Florida vs LSU

This is the first time you will see the Gators make this list, and it will not be the last time. The Gators have one of the best young quarterbacks in football, and he goes by the name DJ Lagway. Lagway was a true Freshman last year who took over as the starter for Florida after Senior Graham Mertz got hurt. Lagway was very impressive in the games he played last year, and is projected to be a Heisman Trophy contender next season.

The main reason why this game is going to be so great is that it will feature DJ Lagway in a battle against LSU’s QB Garrett Nussmeier, who is also very good. Add on the fact that Florida vs LSU is a rivalry game, AND it will be in Death Valley, well these are all just factors that should lead to a great game.

Week 4 – Alabama vs Georgia

It was the game of the year last year, and it could very well be the game of the year this upcoming season.

The Crimson Tide of Alabama vs the Bulldogs of Georgia is one of the best rivalries in modern-day college football. Last year was just the latest iteration of great Alabama-Georgia games.

If you haven’t seen it, well, here’s the link, go watch it (you will not be disappointed):
Alabama vs. Georgia (2024)

Get ready for another hard-hitting, high-stakes SEC battle. Alabama will be playing in Athens, Georgia, this time around. Crowd atmosphere is very important in college football, and Georgia will likely be favored.

Last year Alabama beat Georgia, but maybe this year the Bulldogs can get revenge.

Week 5 – Florida vs Texas

Would you look at that? Florida and Texas have made an appearance once again.

The storyline is quite simple. Florida has a great young quarterback in DJ Lagway who will likely be a Heisman contender. Texas has Arch Manning, nephew of the great Peyton and Eli Manning, and another talented quarterback who is also expected to be a Heisman Contender.

(If you don’t know who Peyton Manning is, do a Google search. If you don’t know who Eli Manning is, just look up Tom Brady’s dad. heheh.)

Anyways, this matchup is going to be basically midseason. It is going to showcase to guys to are likely going to be Heisman Contenders on SEC teams that should be pretty good. Certainly sounds like fun to me.

Week 12 – Ohio State vs Michigan

This game doesn’t need an introduction because it is the best rivalry in all of college sports. It is The Game.

Alright, I said it needs no introduction, but I’m going to give it some context anyway.

Flashback to 2019, Ohio State had capped off its eighth win in the past eight years vs Michigan. Mind you, these teams play once a year annually so that one win stings for the entirety of the year until the next game.

Anyways, in 2019 the Buckeyes won, 2020 no game because of COVID. Well, from 2021-2024(last year 2024), Michigan has won four years in a row. That’s a pretty big deal when it comes to this rivalry. Despite the loss, Ohio State did come away with a National Championship, a feat that the Michigan Wolverines had accomplished a year prior to Ohio State winning the Natty. Now coming up in 2025, Ohio State is seeking back-to-back championships, as well as revenge against Michigan.

The Buckeyes were embarrassed by the Wolverines last year. It was not a good look. Head Coach of the Buckeyes, Ryan Day, would have likely been fired if he had not won the National Championship 2 months later.

Basically, this year the Wolverines are seeking to continue their win streak against the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes are trying to end that streak.

The game will feature Michigan’s freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood, who is expected to be elite, and Ohio State’s sophomore wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith, who is elite.

The Game always delivers, and I can’t wait to see what happens this year.
