Early Morning Thoughts
Just some quick thoughts I’m writing before the many college football games that will be played today. Off the bat the Red River Rivalry, one of the greatest rivalries in College Football and maybe the game I am most excited for today. Quinn Ewers returns after being injured replacing Arch Manning who has looked very good over the past couple games he has started. I do think Quinn Ewers will perform well today but I wouldn’t be too surprised if we see a slow start from him coming back from injury. However, Texas is the #1 in the country and while crazy things happen in rivalry games, I think Texas is much better than last year, and they will take the Red River Rivalry this year.
The other exciting game that is on later tonight is #3 Oregon vs #2 Ohio State, a game that I think is the biggest game of the season since Georgia vs Alabama 2 weeks prior. Ohio State is so dangerous on offense when they have the best backfield in the country in Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson. They also have QB Will Howard who has almost limitless weapons to throw to. From true Freshman Jeremiah Smith to Senior Emeka Ebueka, who I think is one of the most underrated players in the country, the Ducks Defense will have to really battle against Ohio State. That being said, Oregon has looked very good in their last few games they have played. Last week against Michigan State, RB Jordan James had 166 rushing yards as well as a TD, QB Dillon Gabriel 257 throwing yards as well as throwing for 2 TDs, and one of there best receivers, Tez Johnson, has 84 receiving yards, and 1 TD. Oregon has stepped their level of play up over the last couple weeks and they will definitely pose a challenge for Ohio State. The atmosphere at Autzen Stadium is loud too and could definitely throw off Ohio State. However, Ohio State’s defense is incredibly good with guys like Denzel Ward, and Caleb Downs. I think Ohio State will be the Ducks at home but I definitely think it will be close. Also another thing I am excited for is to see Oregon’s, “The Fly Era” Uniforms on display today. These blackout threads are so tuff and will be cool to see in action.
Finally, another game I want to review is Kansas State at Colorado. Right now I believe Ashton Jeanty is the guy who is the Heisman frontrunner, but Travis Hunter is definitely at my number 2 in the running. I think we will see a big Travis Hunter performance at home today and I think his Heisman battle with Ashton Jeanty will be very close. Getting back to the actual game between the two teams playing today, Colorado is 4-1 but so is Kansas State. However, Kansas State is 1-1 in conference play while Colorado is 2-0 in conference play. Both teams are coming off bye weeks that came after big wins for both teams. Colorado beat the favored UCF Knights 48-21 and Kansas State beat Oklahoma State 42-20. I think Colorado will win today's battle but it will be their toughest game yet. The importance of this game for Deion Sanders is quite large. Last year Colorado went 4-8 after starting the season 3-0. Now Colorado is 4-1 and could easily make a bowl game this season, but I think if they lose to Kansas State, it will be challenging for them to keep up the winning for the rest of the year and that is why this game is so important. Momentum is key, if Colorado comes out of tonight with a win, which I think they will, then they should do very well against teams like Utah and Arizona.
