What a Weekend

College Football delivered like it always does in a very wild and fun conference championship weekend. Also, I don’t mean to flex or anything but I got 3 out of my 4 Power Four conference predictions correct. I guess I really do know ball. Alright, moving on, today the final College Football Playoff rankings came out with the final and official bracket. I will be breaking down the College Football Playoff in this post.

I’m going to break down the conference championship to start because it was pretty incredible. Boise State had an easy win over UNLV to win the Mountain West and secure the 3rd seed in the CFP Bracket. It is going to be interesting to see Jeanty play either Penn State or SMU in the Quarterfinal. In the Mountain West championship, Jeanty rushed for 209 yards and 1 td, which while a great game, a pretty calm game for someone like Jeanty. Army won their first conference title in their 134-year history as a program. It is going to be exciting to see Navy and Army battle on the 14th in the annual Army vs Navy game. Both teams had incredible, historic seasons. The Power 4 championship games delivered as well; ASU crushed Iowa State, Oregon, and Penn State played in an exciting Big 10 Chip game (Oregon really is the team to beat), and Clemson and SMU came down to a game-winning field goal which would secure Clemson a playoff spot. Oh and I can’t forget Georgia vs Texas played in a historic SEC championship game that went to overtime (the first time that has happened in an SEC chip game.)

My takeaways after this weekend are this:

  1. Georgia’s kryptonite is Alabama, Texas’s kryptonite is Georiga - Georgia is lucky their kryptonite is not in the playoff, Texas is not so fortunate

Georiga dominated Texas in their first matchup of the season and once again their defense was smothering in the SEC chip game. Georgia only truly showed weakness against Alabama and Georiga Tech, and since neither of those teams is in the playoff, their chances of winning are much higher than before

  1. Despite being challenged by Penn State, Oregon is still the favorite to win it all

Oregon is easily the best team in the country. They are the only undefeated team, Dillon Gabriel is an incredible, confident QB who has great weapons around him. I think we will definitely see them in the Championship game.

  1. ASU could be a dark horse to win the CFP

They have won their last 6 games beating good teams like BYU, Iowa State, and Kansas State. Don’t be surprised if they make a playoff run.

  1. The committee pretty much got it right

All the selections that were made by the CFP committee were the correct ones. You could argue that Bama is a better team than SMU, but after suffering the loss they had to Oklahoma, I am completely happy with having SMU in the playoff over Alabama.

The final topic of prediction to wrap up this blog post is the Army vs Navy game coming up this Saturday. It may not seem like much except that the Army and Navy both had very successful strong seasons. The Navy finished 8-3, third in their conference, and the Army won their conference for the first time in school history. This Saturday's game is going to be very fun to watch. My prediction: Army wins 27-24.
