Ya Like Jazz?

Jazz Chisholm Jr is my favorite baseball player. He plays 2nd base for the Yankees, and this season he has batted .247 with 31 home runs and 80 RBIs. He also has a slugging percentage of .827. He was named an all-star this past year for the 2nd time in his career, and aside from Aaron Judge, has been one of the Yankees' best players this past season.

In this post, I’ll be diving into Jazz’s career so far, from his beginnings with the Diamondbacks to where he resides now with the Yankees. So sit back and read what Ro Knows.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Jazz signed with the D-Backs in 2015 as an international free agent. He made his debut in 2016, not for the Diamondbacks but instead for the Missoula Osprey. He played 62 games for the Osprey, hitting .281 with nine home runs and 37 RBI’s. In 2017, Jazz switched to the Kane County Cougars but had to sit out most of the season due to injury. The Kane County Cougars are a minor league affiliate of the Diamondbacks, and after spending some time in Kane County, Jazz was promoted to Single A, playing for the Visalia Rawhide.

Jazz played 112 games for the Visalia Rawhide (weird ass name), batting .272 with 25 home runs and 70 RBI’s. (If you were curious, the mascot for the Visalia Rawhide is a “Holstein bull” named Tipper. Who knew?!)

After seeing success for the Visalia Rawhide (once again, weird name), Jazz moved on to another minor league team, the Jackson Generals. Chisholm played for the Double-A during the 2019 season, before getting traded to the Miami Marlins in July.

Miami Marlins

July 31st, 2019. That was the day the Marlins acquired Jazz Chisholm, trading pitcher Zac Gallen to get him. Jazz would play the rest of the 2019 season for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (incredible name). Jazz slashed .220/.321/.441 with the Jumbo Shrimp, along with 21 home runs, 54 RBI’s, and 16 stolen bases.

Jazz was brought up to the majors on September 1st of 2020. On September 9th, he would record his first career home run in the majors.

Marlins: 2021-2023

 2021 Stats: Slashed .248/.303/.425, crushing 18 homers, 53 RBI’s, and 23 stolen bases.

(Fun fact: Jazz had the fastest spring speed in the majors at the time at 29.1 feet/second.)

2022 Stats: Became an All-Star for the first time in his career, being named the starting second baseman for the National League. His season was cut short after the All-Star break due to injury, but Jazz hit .254/.325/.535 with 14 home runs, 10 doubles, 4 triples, and 45 RBI’s. He also stole 12 bases.

2023 Stats: Was moved to center field for the 2023 season. Jazz played 97 games, batting 250/.304/.457 and notching a career high at the time of 19 home runs. He also hit 51 RBI’s and stole 22 bases. The Marlins made the Wild Card that year, but unfortunately lost both games to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Joining the Pinstripes

Jazz began the 2024 season in Miami, but was traded to the Bronx Bombers on July 27th. Jazz got hot quickly, burying four home runs in his first three games as a Yankee, the first player in franchise history to do this. The Yankees played Jazz at third base, a position that Chisholm had never played before.

Jazz finished the ‘24 season with a batting average of .256, an OBS (on-base plus slugging) of .760, and an OBP (on-base percentage) of .324. He crushed 26 home runs, 75 RBI’s, and helped get the Yankees to the 2024 World Series, where they would suffer a devastating loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

2025

This season, Jazz is having the best season of his career. He blasted 30 home runs and stole 30 bases, the first Yankee to ever pull this off. He was named an all-star for the 2nd time in his career, making highlight plays on offense and defense.

As of right now, the Yankees have clinched a wild-card position. Hopefully, with the help of Jazz, the Yankees can make another deep postseason run. Maybe, just maybe, the Yankees can get championship number 28.
